Changes in Family Structure

Changes in family dynamics. Traditionally, the man is head and breadwinner. Women are dedicated as homemakers. Roles and responsibilities change: Men loose/share power. Need to learn how to do domestic chores. Women need to learn to be independent; providers and protectors without abandoning their role of nurturers. Different levels of acculturation and language skills in children and parents. Our youth live between two worlds (The sandwich generation) and many sacrifice the opportunity to go to school in order to provide for their family. Elders have a hard time understanding the integration process in their family members. Assertive behaviors are considered disrespectful.
